Job Summary

The Senior Interior Designer is responsible for leading multiple complex and high-profile interior design projects, ensuring they meet all aesthetic, functional, and budgetary requirements. This role demands extensive client interaction, strategic project management, executing advanced design tasks, and mentoring design teams, ensuring design excellence. The Interior Designer is pivotal in driving the project from inception through completion, managing both the creative and logistical elements to achieve successful outcomes. The role requires a strong blend of creative, technical, and management skills to effectively oversee project deliverables and maintain client relationships.

Primary Essential Functions

  • Strategically lead multiple interior design projects, ensuring they meet all operational, budgetary, creative and technical standards, and design-quality objectives.
  • Proficiency creating technical drawings and specifications that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done.
  • Direct project experience working within the U.S. industry, building standards, and regulations, specifically on design-build projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary design contact, and ensuring high levels of satisfaction which results in repeat business.
  • Develop detailed project specifications, drawings, and layouts that adhere to contractual and design requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients to refine design concepts and ensure their vision is accurately translated into the final product.
  • Direct project teams, assigning responsibilities and deadlines, and overseeing all phases of the design process from initial concept to final implementation.
  • Manage coordination between project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure seamless execution of design elements.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews and approvals to ensure compliance with design standards and client expectations.
  • Manage the financial aspects of design projects, including preparing budgets, forecasting costs, and controlling expenditures.
  • Spearhead problem-solving efforts during project challenges, providing innovative solutions to maintain project continuity and integrity.
  • Oversee the implementation of design solutions during the construction phase, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Review and approve material selections, ensuring they meet sustainability standards, and project aesthetics.
  • Present design milestones and final projects to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment with client expectations.
  • Engage in business development activities by participating in marketing efforts, proposal development, and client presentations.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations and codes, safety and building codes, ADA compliance, and environmental standards across all projects and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ability to process, during the construction phase, submittal, RFIs, substitution requests, etc.
  • Provide expert guidance on advanced materials and cutting-edge design techniques to enhance project outcomes.
  • Oversee the documentation and record-keeping for all design projects to ensure accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Mentor and lead a team of designers, providing guidance on advanced design techniques, and project management.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, contributing to thought leadership and enhancing the company's profile.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and improvement within the team, encouraging continuous learning, and adaptation to new design trends and technologies.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive and advanced knowledge of the interior design process, architectural practices, and project management - including design principles, materials, and the latest industry trends.
  • Deep understanding of project management principles and familiarity with related software.
  • Expertise and in-depth understanding of industry regulations including building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability practices.
  • Comprehensive familiarity with material properties and application techniques.

Skills

  • Proficient in leading design teams and managing complex projects across various stages of development.
  • Exceptional design and spatial analysis skills, with a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions.
  • Advanced skills in client management, and capable of fostering strong client relationships.
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to address design and project challenges creatively.
  • Expert proficiency in design software such as Revit, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Newforma project management software.

Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate design visions and complex ideas to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Capability to manage client expectations and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, crucial for overcoming project challenges
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team and fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality or deadlines.

Required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Master’s degree in Interior Design or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in managing large-scale interior design projects.
  • Licensed Interior Designer or similar professional qualification.

Preferred

  • Specialization in a niche area of interior design, such as sustainable or healthcare design.
  • Additional certifications in project management or sustainable design.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 20 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
