The Role
PVEDI has recently partnered with Stratus and we’re hiring a Mechanical/Pluming Designer. This role will focus on the d esign of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and/or plumbing/fire-protection services within the built environment, with an emphasis on sustainable design. Surveying and inspecting existing mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems, as well as other energy-impacting components that impact building operations and energy consumption. Perform energy calculations and long-term sustainability analysis for construction upgrades to existing building systems. Reviewing the ongoing work of contractors for the completion of project activities (field and office) and preparing summary documentation (reports, correspondence, verbal communication) for Project Manager review. Digital drafting, calculations, and design of construction projects and document preparation for Project Manager review.

Responsibilities
- Design HVAC, plumbing, and/or fire-protection distribution systems.
- Assists with walkthroughs and surveys of existing buildings, focusing on all components that impact energy consumption, including measurements, photos, and equipment inventory.
- Performs basic hand/Excel calculations and detailed computer simulated energy modeling calculations demonstrating energy savings of various construction solutions.
- Becomes well versed in communicating the nuances of New York City’s various laws, building codes, and legislation as they relate to mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection codes.
- Assists with preparing summary documentation (photo reports, site markups, verbal communication)
- Digital drafting of schematic and detailed construction documents of various mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection projects in both AutoCAD and Revit.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or applicable work experience.
- 2-4 years of mechanical engineering of buildings and/or design in support of various existing building projects and initiatives. Understanding of processes, compliance, and other design consulting and construction professionals.
- Adhere to all Structures Group Special Competencies and Certifications listed within the Appendix A.
- The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
- Working knowledge of principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer calculations, fluid-flow, and energy conservation. Working knowledge of applications of ductwork/piping distribution, equipment sizing/selection, and various applications as outlined in industry-recognized standards (ASHRAE, ASPE, etc.)
- The position is based in Manhattan, NY and will involve moderate travel mainly throughout the five boroughs. Job requires the ability to navigate urban, rural, and industrial sites. Must have a valid driver’s and safe driving record.
- Ability to walk fire escapes, stairwells, multiple stairs, and various basement areas. Must also be able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer terminal, proficiently operating a computer keyboard while looking at the screen, and operating general office equipment.
- Office is a temperature controlled, smoke free environment.
- Field Inspection performed in outdoor temperature extremes for brief periods of time, but mostly indoors.

Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
