Environmental Scientist I

Job Summary

Entry-level professional position responsible for supporting environmental assessments, data collection, and reporting. Works under close supervision to learn fundamental environmental science practices.

Primary Essential Functions

• Assist in conducting field investigations, including soil, water, and air sampling.
• Support the preparation of environmental reports, data tables, and figures.
• Collect, organize, and maintain environmental data in accordance with quality standards.
• Assists the senior staff with regulatory reviews and permitting processes.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Work collaboratively and effectively with clients and colleagues, including cross-functional teams, peers, direct reports, and leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

Knowledge

• Basic environmental science principles
• Introduction to civil engineering design processes and permitting requirements
  
  

Skills

• Data collection and field logging
• Technical writing and the ability to contribute to the environmental sections of reports
• Microsoft Office Suite and introductory GIS/CAD skills
• Use in field equipment
  
  

Abilities

• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, including engineers, planners, and scientists
• Strong organization and attention to detail in both field and office tasks
• Ability to work safely in field environments
  
  

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science , Geology, Biology related field
• 0 – 2 years relevant experience
  
  

Preferred

• Prior internship or work experience with an engineering or consulting firm
• Familiarity with GIS or environmental modeling software
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
• Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
• Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to25 lbs ).
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
