Staff Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics & Systems
$140,000-$175,000 equity
Remote - Maximum of 50% travel to lab in North Carolina
I’m partnering with a fast-growing technology company developing a new distributed power-generation platform for critical data center infrastructure.
They are looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer who can combine strong power-electronics knowledge with broader system and product ownership.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has developed deep expertise in an individual converter, circuit or subsystem and is now ready to take responsibility for making the entire electrical system work.
The initial architecture is already in place, and the immediate focus will be finalizing the design, integrating components from multiple suppliers, testing the complete system and taking it through to product release and deployment.
This is not a narrowly focused circuit-design position. It is an opportunity to use your circuit-level knowledge at a broader level, owning how multiple power-electronics subsystems come together within a new critical-power platform.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning system-level electrical design and integration
- Developing electrical architectures, schematics, wiring diagrams and interface definitions
- Specifying and integrating VFDs, DC-DC converters, AC inverters, batteries, switchgear, circuit protection and controls
- Producing component specifications, BOMs, harness designs and power budgets
- Using MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, LTspice or similar tools to model and analyze system performance
- Working directly with suppliers to investigate and resolve detailed integration issues
- Supporting prototype builds, lab testing, troubleshooting, commissioning and design improvements
- Helping turn an innovative technology into a robust, commercially deployable product
What they’re looking for:
- Strong experience in power electronics and system-level electrical engineering - Minimum 7 years experience in industry
- Experience integrating electrical systems across multiple vendors and technology stacks
- A solid understanding of low- and medium-voltage systems, controls and critical-power equipment
- Experience designing to NEC, UL, IEEE or related standards
- Previous involvement in taking a new product through development, testing and release
- The confidence to make technical decisions, challenge assumptions and take ownership without waiting for constant direction
The position can be based in Raleigh or remotely, although remote candidates must be comfortable travelling to the Raleigh lab during integration, testing and customer-demo phases.
