JOB SPECIFICATION
TITLE:Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Master’s degree, with a major or CAGS in educational administration
2. A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal
3. At least five years of experience as a teacher
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO:Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES:
1. Teaching staff and paraprofessionals
2. Other professional staff
3. All nonprofessional school staff
4. Other resource and service personnel while functioning in the assigned school.
JOB GOAL:By use of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills, to manage assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the school’s educational program.
Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
Recommends to the Superintendent development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and nonprofessional personnel attached to the school.
Assists the Superintendent in the screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s professional staff.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal.
Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
Oversees development and administration of school’s After School and Summer Programs.
Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy.
Supervises and evaluates the school’s extracurricular programs.
Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the Superintendent’s office.
Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
Assists the Superintendent in the management and preparation of the school budget.
Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
Recommends to the Superintendent the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory, according to established procedures.
Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
Keeps the Superintendent informed of activities in the building by whatever means the Superintendent deems appropriate.
Files a monthly, written report, on a date designated by the Superintendent, to the Superintendent of Schools.
Attends School Board meetings if requested by the Superintendent or the School Board.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 days
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience and education level, aligned with North Country market rates and comparable districts; 87%-90% employer sponsored health
EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated periodically during the year in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
