Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and knowledgeable Optician with minimum 2 years of experience to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting patients with their eye care and eyewear needs, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring that all optical products meet the highest standards of quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optometry and retail sales, along with a thorough understanding of medical terminology and optical practices. The candidate must be willing to be cross-trained in all departments. This is a full-time position with scheduled hours 9AM-5PM Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their needs, prescriptions, and preferences
- Take accurate measurements (PD, segment heights, etc.) for all eyewear orders
- Conduct trainings, fittings and adjustments for eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Assist doctors with preliminary tests
- Verify and bill vision plans and medical insurances
- Answer phone calls and schedule appointments
- Maintain accurate patient records, including medical history and prescriptions
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality
- Collaborate with Optometrists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive eye care
- Utilize EMR systems to document patient interactions and maintain medical records
- Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and care instructions
- Manage inventory of optical products and supplies, ensuring availability for customers
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of optical experience required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as an optician (ABO/NCLE) preferred but not required
- Experience with optical sales and retail management, including retail math skills
- Familiarity with vision plans and medical insurance plans
- Strong computer skills and experience with EHR/practice management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in aseptic techniques for maintaining a safe environment
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service
- Ability to work collaboratively in a clinical setting while managing multiple tasks efficiently
- Professional, patient focused, and reliable
