Lead IT Project Manager
Location: St. Louis, MO (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Month Contract
Overview:
The Lead IT Project Manager is a senior-level leader responsible for developing, mentoring, and elevating project management capabilities across the IT organization. This role focuses primarily on coaching and enabling Project Managers, Scrum Masters, and delivery teams to improve execution, communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Development (70%)
- Coach and mentor IT Project Managers, Scrum Masters, and delivery teams on project management best practices, delivery methodologies, and leadership skills.
- Provide one-on-one and group coaching sessions focused on project execution, stakeholder management, communication, and organizational effectiveness.
- Develop and deliver training materials, workshops, and learning sessions for PMO and IT delivery teams.
- Guide teams in applying Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies appropriately.
- Support professional growth through feedback, development plans, and performance coaching.
- Promote continuous improvement and project management maturity across the organization.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to project leaders and stakeholders on delivery challenges and risk mitigation.
ORRB Leadership & Facilitation (25%)
- Lead and facilitate ORRB (Operational/Organizational Review Review Board) activities and governance processes.
- Coordinate intake, prioritization, review, and escalation activities related to project governance.
- Ensure project documentation, status reporting, and governance standards are consistently followed.
- Partner with business and IT leaders to support strategic decision-making and portfolio alignment.
- Identify process improvement opportunities within governance and operational review functions.
Project Management / Scrum Master Support (5%)
- Provide direct project management or Scrum Master support for strategic initiatives as needed.
- Assist with planning, facilitation, issue resolution, and delivery execution for high-priority projects.
- Support teams with Agile ceremonies, project planning, scheduling, and risk management activities.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of Project Management experience within IT organizations.
- Prior experience teaching, training, mentoring, or coaching project managers and/or technical teams.
- Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid project delivery methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience influencing teams and stakeholders without direct authority.
- Proven ability to facilitate executive-level discussions and governance meetings.
- Experience working within a PMO or Center of Excellence (COE) environment preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- PMP, Scrum Master, Agile Coaching, or related certifications preferred.
