Construction Manager – Solar Projects
Location: Tampa, FL
Contract Duration: 6–8 months
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM; Saturdays required as needed
Pay Rate: $70-$75/hr
Position Summary
The Construction Manager will oversee the management, direction, and coordination of construction activities for solar plant projects, maintenance, and outage work. This role is responsible for ensuring assigned projects meet safety, quality, schedule, cost, and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide field direction to ensure safety, quality, work progress, cost, schedule, and overall project performance meet requirements.
- Manage multiple construction contracts and determine appropriate contract methodology.
- Provide constructability input during the design phase.
- Determine supervision and contractor field resource needs.
- Review contractor craft manpower to ensure proper and efficient staffing levels.
- Supervise construction supervisors and/or contracted supervisors.
- Provide indirect oversight of contractor management personnel, with teams potentially up to 400 individuals.
- Support the Project Manager in maintaining relationships with plant personnel, management, contractors, vendors, suppliers, engineers, and construction company leadership.
- Review and recommend approval or rejection of contract extras, changes, and additions in coordination with Project Controls.
- Coordinate storm preparedness and restoration activities for assigned projects.
- Support personnel development needs for direct reports.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years of related work experience, or 12 years of related experience in power plant operations or maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Construction supervisor experience on solar sites is required.
- Experience in solar power plant construction is required.
- Strong knowledge of construction codes, standards, safety programs, and construction management techniques.
- Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and strategic initiatives.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead teams and drive results.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, performance management, and team-building skills.
- Ability to facilitate and manage change within a large organization.
- Ability to travel frequently, including occasional air travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction, or related field.
- Managerial experience in heavy industrial construction or project management.
Work Environment
- Frequent travel from the home office to solar project sites in Polk and Manatee Counties.
- Outdoor work in hot, humid, wet, and/or cold conditions.
- Work within power generation facilities.
- Work in elevated noise areas requiring hearing protection.
- 24/7 availability may be needed based on plant or project needs.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, bending, and climbing stairs throughout the workday.
- Ability to work from elevated platforms using fall protection.
- Ability to work in tight or confined spaces as required.
Pay: $70.00 - $75.00 per hour
