We are seeking an experienced Photography Specialist to provide professional photography support for the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) under the Visual Information Support Services (VISS) contract. This position covers official command photography, including ceremonies, portraits, and special events, as well as post-production editing and digital asset management. The role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to capture high-impact imagery that reflects the Navy’s mission and professionalism.
This position is contingent upon receipt of award and candidate’s ability to pass security screening.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide event and studio photography for official ceremonies, retirements, conferences, and media releases.
- Capture high-quality still images that meet Navy composition, lighting, and technical standards.
- Perform photo editing, retouching, and metadata tagging to ensure compliance with release and archiving requirements.
- Produce official portraits and passport photos in studio and on location.
- Coordinate with public affairs officers and clients to plan photographic coverage.
- Maintain and catalog all images within the VISS Digital Library for authorized access and retrieval.
- Ensure all imagery complies with DoD public release and security guidelines.
- Maintain and track photographic equipment, ensuring readiness and accountability.
- Provide creative input on visual storytelling and multimedia integration with graphics and AV teams.
Qualifications
Required:
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance.
- Education: High School Diploma
- Four years of US military photography experience. NOTE: U.S. military photography experience does not mean personnel are required to have prior active duty military service. Personnel are required to have experience working with the military in this area.
- Two year technical degree in photography may substitute for two years of the required experience.
- Proficiency with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, studio lighting, and image-editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge).
- Strong understanding of composition, color, and exposure for both studio and field environments.
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or federal government media projects.
- Knowledge of metadata tagging, captioning, and release workflows (IPTC, DoD standards).
- Familiarity with video capture and hybrid photo/video workflows.
- Background in photojournalism or event photography with quick-turn deliverables.
