Job Summary:
Strategic Management Solutions, LLC (SMSI) is seeking Electrical Engineers to work onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The Electrical Engineer will perform a full range of design engineering responsibilities in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance activities. This role requires applying broad and diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and DOE‑complex requirements. Due to multiple openings, there are positions which require 3 years of experience but also positions that require a minimum of 6 years of experience.
- Work schedule is typically 4-10s during regular business hours, working either: Monday-Thursday, Thursday-Sunday, or Friday-Monday.
Responsibilities:
- Perform conventional engineering design, analysis, and calculations.
- Develop, review, and support engineering design packages.
- Provide construction, field, and project engineering support.
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi‑discipline team.
- Apply engineering technology and tools to deliver high‑quality work.
- Interface with stakeholders across disciplines in a fast‑paced environment.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience required for Engineer 2.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant engineering experience required for Engineer 3.
- Working knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria relevant to electrical engineering.
- Proven knowledge of commonly applied codes and standards at DOE and DoD facilities (e.g., NQA‑1, IBC, NFPA, NEC).
- Prior experience facilitating and developing engineering design packages.
- Familiarity with typical engineering deliverables (e.g., construction documents).
- Experience with computer‑aided design/drafting software or markup tools.
- Design experience in power and familiarity with low power, <480. 208 and 120 are very common.
- US citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance is required.
- Candidate must be able to work onsite in Los Alamos.
- The candidate must have an active Real ID driver's license for badging and onboarding.
Preferred Skills:
- Active (or recently inactive) DOE Q clearance preferred but not required.
- Design experience in DOD, DOE, nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations is a plus.
- Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures is a plus.
- Controls experience is a plus.
Educational Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
- EIT or Professional Engineer license is a plus.
