Job Summary
SMSI, LLC is seeking multiple experienced Designers/Drafters Level 1 & 2 to support Plutonium Facility Engineering (PFE) Division projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The PFE Division of LANL supports, develops and maintains engineering capabilities within the Laboratory Plutonium Manufacturing facility at TA-55.
Responsibilities
- The Designer /Drafter will be part of a design team assessing, maintaining and upgrading the facility systems at LANL.
- Provide support to more experienced engineering personnel by performing detailed three-dimensional and two-dimensional facility design assignments at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
- Assigned to a discipline position within the LANL engineering Division in an entry-level and higher-level technical capacity.
- Complete assigned tasks under routine supervision and technical directions.
Required Skills/ Abilities-Designer Drafter Level 1
- Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience is required, depending on the level of the position.
- Demonstrated skills to produce 3D and 2D facility designs and issue drawings is required.
- Skills to evaluate, identify, and document existing deficiencies.
- Ability to produce simple calculations and design recommendations is required.
- Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases) and submit for engineering review and approval.
- Capability with MS Office Suite and ability/willingness to learn new software packages.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors, and consultants on a day-to-day basis.
- Self-starter with ability to work in team environment.
- Candidates must be able to work full-time, onsite at LANL.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
Required Skills/Abilities -Designer / Drafter Level 2
Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred for Level 2 Designer / Drafter:
- Detailed knowledge and experience in understanding engineering design.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME, ASTM, AWS, IEEE and computer-aided design (CAD) to produce models, drawings, layouts, or engineering concepts.
- Fundamental knowledge of AutoDesk /AutoCAD.
- Ability to be responsible for the general design drawing packages.
- Ability to resolve engineering design packages issued by the facility reviews and collaborate with engineers and stakeholders on design, fabrication, and assembly and test.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and contract language.
Education Requirements
- The level 1 position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience.
- The level 2 position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education related to the standards including industry and/or DOE/LANL standards.
