Job Purpose
The Construction Worker supports the installation and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure, including Fiber-to-the-Premise networks. This position involves hands-on work in both underground and aerial environments, assisting in the construction, repair, and maintenance of communication facilities and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Equipment Operators with loading, unloading, and distributing materials at job sites.
Operate shovels, hydro-vac, and other hand or power tools to expose and protect existing utilities.
Dig trenches, install conduit, and place telecommunications facilities where machinery cannot be used.
Install and maintain aerial and underground cable, pedestals, poles, and related equipment.
Maintain work areas, clean up sites, and ensure proper disposal of debris.
Set up and remove traffic control signage, cones, and safety devices.
Perform basic maintenance and fueling of heavy equipment.
Follow all company safety standards and report any hazards or incidents promptly.
Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (CDL a plus).
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and perform strenuous physical labor.
Experience with construction equipment and tools preferred.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans.
Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and out of town as needed.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Working Conditions
Outdoor environments in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, mud).
Long workdays during construction season (up to 15 hours).
Exposure to loud noises, heavy equipment, and high-traffic areas.
Frequent bending, lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
On-call rotation may be required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 100 lbs.
Ability to perform repetitive motions, climb in and out of trenches or manholes, and operate tools safely.
