The Central Office Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting central office (CO) equipment and facilities. This role supports STRATA's network infrastructure across multiple locations to ensure reliable service delivery using both advanced and legacy telecommunications systems.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Safely perform all assigned tasks in accordance with STRATA safety standards
- Install, power, connect, configure, and maintain CO equipment, including IP/Ethernet transport, core, distribution, aggregation, access equipment, and legacy SONET/TDM systems
- Install and maintain DC power distribution systems
- Perform general care and upkeep of company-owned and colocation facilities
- Troubleshoot optical and electrical communication circuits
- Work with fiber, copper, coax, and wireless technologies
- Connect optical and electrical cables between the CO equipment and customer connections
- Work with DC and AC power systems, including backup power and generators
- Use multiple computer applications to configure and maintain equipment
- Read and interpret service orders, technical drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and maps
- Complete service orders, repair tickets, and documentation accurately
- Communicate and troubleshoot with service provider partners
- Remove retired fiber optic and copper infrastructure and related equipment
- Work with telecom color-coded wiring and cabling
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers and coworkers
- Travel to assigned work locations as needed
- Participate in an on-call rotation (one week at a time) to support the network after hours
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills with strong attention to detail

- Valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work varying shifts, including on-call rotations, weekends, and holidays

- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities, including lifting objects over 50 pounds
