Job Purpose
The Drafter / CAD Operator supports the engineering team by preparing, updating, and posting project drawings and records. This role ensures accurate and accessible mapping information is available across departments, contributing to efficient project execution and system reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide drafting support to multiple OSP Engineers, including creating staking sheets and construction drawings for fiber-optic and copper network projects.
Assist with material tabulations and project documentation.
Coordinate with Engineers, Logistics, Construction, and Facilities to ensure project information is accurate and up to date.
Complete records posting tasks, including updating M4 maps and system records based on as-built information from field crews.
Maintain accuracy of maps and documentation related to BLCs, FDAs, and other system upgrades.
Support special drafting and mapping assignments, including state and federal mapping requirements and internal mapping needs.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license required.
Highly motivated self-starter with strong follow-through and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Certificate or Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant work experience may substitute.
Experience with AutoCAD, Google Earth, and GIS platforms preferred.
Background in telecommunications or related utilities is a plus.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including a strong command of English and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to learn new software, particularly drafting and mapping platforms.
Comfortable collaborating with internal teams, customers, and suppliers; able to set objectives, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively in a cross-functional environment.
