The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, verification testing, CMMS documentation, and coordination with the Site Supervisor, Remote Operations/Monitoring, and OEM/vendor partners such as Tesla.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to all safety standards, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, state/local regulations, and company policies.
- Promote a strong safety culture, including hazard recognition, job briefings, stop‑work authority, and safe work practices.
- Identify, escalate, and support resolution of electrical and operational safety hazards.
- Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energized work controls, and PPE requirements consistently.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive and corrective maintenance to support equipment reliability.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, controls, communications/SCADA, and balance‑of‑plant issues, including AC/DC circuits, auxiliary power, transformers, switchgear, protection interfaces, networking hardware, and site communications.
- Support BESS operations and coordinate with Tesla for battery‑system troubleshooting, service response, and documentation.
- Inspect and maintain BESS balance‑of‑plant equipment and interfaces (PCS interfaces, auxiliary systems, station service, HVAC for non‑Megapack equipment, fire detection/alarm interfaces, site controls/communications).
- Interpret electrical schematics, single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and OEM manuals.
- Use electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, low‑resistance ohmmeters, IR thermometer/camera).
- Write and perform switching orders when qualified/authorized.
- Support monitoring and communications tasks, including alarm/event review, data extraction, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with Site Supervisor and OEM/vendor personnel for planned service activities, ensuring safe execution and proper documentation.
- Maintain accurate records: work orders, maintenance reports, inspection/test results, logs, and CMMS entries.
- Support emergency response activities and the Emergency Action Plan.
- Maintain site readiness and housekeeping standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- None (may provide task support/mentoring to junior personnel or contractors).
- Participate in environmental compliance programs, inspections, and recordkeeping.
- Support compliance with RCRA and DOT regulations.
- Assist with environmental incident response and mitigation.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 2–4 years of experience in utility‑scale PV, BESS sites, substations, or equivalent industrial electrical/power systems.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and MV safety practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory, three‑phase power, and energy storage fundamentals.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings/schematics and OEM manuals.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, IR camera/thermography tools).
- Proficiency with CMMS platforms and maintenance reporting tools; ability to learn additional software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to remote project sites for extended durations.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, or bend.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs overhead repeatedly.
- 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to wear full PPE.
- Ability to travel and work on‑call during off‑shift hours and weekends.
