Job Title: Counselor - Elementary  
Reports to: Building Principal  
Evaluated by: Building Principal   

Job Goal: The goal of this position is to assist students in identifying and overcoming any academic or personal barriers to learning to achieve educational success. The School Counselor will collaborate with students and parents with course selection, scheduling and will be the initial point of contact for student concerns that span multiple subject areas as well as non-academic issues.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

 

  1. Work with the administrative assistants to obtain school records from the student's previous school (where applicable) and forwarding student records when appropriate.
  2. Implement programs for students and families related to interpersonal adjustment issues.
  3. Work with school teams to identify and help families access school and community resources. 
  4. Participate in the development of crisis prevention and management plans for the school and serve as a key member of the Student Support Team (SST).
  5. Coordinate a team of staff to help identify students who are at risk or in crisis.  
  6. Act as the main point of contact for these students and families, communicating regularly with them. 
  7. Implement efforts to secure complete and accurate records for students.
  8. Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.
  9. Stay abreast of all state regulations relating to incident reporting and documentation.
  10. Assist with Colorado State Reporting (EOY, OCT COUNT).
  11. Assist teachers when students enroll mid-semester, making sure that teachers receive guidance on integrating the students into their coursework, and ensuring that previous grades, credits, and evaluations are handled appropriately.
  12. Collaborate with the Principal to communicate with the Curriculum Team to ensure that curriculum offerings meet state requirements.
  13. Implement special programs such as Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT Preparation, and college entrance preparation.
  14. Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications / Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding, and or Testing Required 

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling. 
  • Colorado School Counselor Certification. 
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may find appropriate. 

 

Physical Demands: Between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis, occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching and fine motor activity, frequently sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at desk and floor level, firm and simple grasping. The work requires constant seeing, hearing, and talking.  

 

Work Environment: Work is performed in office, classroom and/or other educational setting.  

 

FLSA Status: Exempt 

 

Days / Terms of Employment: 178 Days / Ten-month position. Salary to be determined by the School Board of Education.

Salary : $52,539 - $83,422
