Job Overview
The Strafford County Sheriff's Office is seeking candidates for the position of Full Time Public Safety Dispatcher. The Strafford County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center is a 24/7 operation primarily dispatching Law Enforcement, Fire, and/or EMS for the Sheriff’s Office and 9 towns within Strafford County. The Communications Center dispatches approximately 100,000 calls for service each year. This is a great opportunity to serve your community and be one of the first, first responders.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch Police, Fire and EMS and other department vehicles to designated areas upon request; maintain written records with the assistance of Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD), a computer software program of the whereabouts of all personnel/vehicles in service.
- Knowledge of and the ability to operate two way radio communication systems, to send and receive messages, answer telephone for same purpose, direct calls to appropriate persons and/or answer questions when possible. All communication is handled in a clear and concise manner.
- Develop a proficient knowledge and be certified in the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) and the New Hampshire State Police On-line Telecommunications System (SPOTS) to communicate accurate information to other law enforcement agencies.
- Perform varied typing functions, with basic computer software knowledge to complete forms, letters, statements and written reports as required.
- Page employees and other personnel using authorized software systems.
- Maintain watch over the security system for the Superior Courthouse.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- May volunteer for training and service in a Specialized Assignment, such as a Tactical Dispatcher, NH TERT Membership, or Communications Training Officer.
- Answering lines and dispatching for several support agencies including, but not limited to: Water Departments, Highway Departments and Medical Examiner’s Office.

- Possess the ability to project and maintain confidentially at all times with issues related to the performance of assigned duties both on and off the job.
- Possess the ability to determine priorities and manage time effectively.
