Position Summary
The Recovery Support Specialist supervises clients in Phase 2 at STR and ensures clients abide by program schedule and clinical requirements. This position coordinate and support psycho-educational groups in nighttime IOP and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of all Phase 2 Housing. The R.S.S mentors and supports clients in a professional manner while encouraging and supporting meaningful community integration as well as the health and safety of clients.
Relationships and Contacts
Within the organization: Establish and maintain productive working relationships with peers and accounting team members throughout Steps to Recovery and affiliated facilities.
Outside the organization: Establish and maintain productive working relationships with third party vendors, as necessary.
Position Responsibilities
- Helping clients by providing information, services, resources, and assistance in regard to food stamps, employment, 12 step recovery community, alternative housing, and Psych supports.
- Maintaining a safe and secure environment.
- Support clients to travel when necessary. Provide transportation for Phase 2 shuttle bus.
- Support clients to engage in treatment plans and housing support plans.
- Facilitate weekly Life Skills workshop to promote community integration, employment, and permanent housing options.
- Provide direct support on Saturdays to monitor and assist with a deep cleaning of the residence as well as supporting clients to a local 12-step meeting
- Support fire safety and physical wellness of clients.
- Assist in client admission and orientation to programming as possible and necessary.
- Communicate and assist in crisis situations involving unsafe situations. EG clients not getting along, unapproved visitors, relapses, APA’s, etc.
- Assist in client discharges as possible and necessary.
- Prepare, facilitate and/or co-facilitate Psycho-Educational Groups as scheduled.
- Engage in appropriate correspondence with client’s loved ones and families as necessary for housing/visitation purposes
- Assist in cleanliness and organization of residences as necessary.
- Complete thorough residence checks for safety and cleanliness at a minimum of twice per week and report issues or concerns to supervisor
- Complete observed Urinalysis Screening of clients when scheduled and necessary.
- Assist in coordinating client crisis, relapse, elopement, or APA.
- Mentor and support house manager in creating community, completing room checks, chore checks, and provide recommendations and feedback to house manager as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and family members in order to engage and support their goals and treatment plan needs while in Phase Two
- Support engagement and participation in community resources and local supports
- Support Phase 3 clients with transport, 12 step integration, and psych supports
- Collect Rent from Phase 3 clients.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
Minimum of high school Diploma, Bachelors degree preferred. 1 Year experience in the human service field providing direct support/ Experience in the substance abuse field preferred. Minimum of 1 year Experience facilitating psycho –educational groups. Valid/Clean Driving record for the last 3-5 years.
Additional Requirements
- Must have or be involved in a program to achieve Certification as a CRS
- Knowledge of 12 step recovery programs and recovery supports in the community
- Knowledge and experience with basic Microsoft software packages
- Ability to physically lift up to 15 pounds
