What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer II position at Stow?
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Manufacturing Engineer II will perform engineering duties to support all work areas in the manufacturing of wood-based products with an emphasis on the production cells to promote safety, quality, efficiency, and capacity. The overall purpose of the role is to support the manufacturing facilities by designing workflows, standard work, and equipment to meet the demands of our customers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides technical support for the manufacturing processes, including process investigations, process changes, and technical transfer and scale up of new product introductions.
- Optimizes production yields and equipment utilization.
- Minimizes raw material losses, waste generation, and utility consumption.
- Creates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new equipment/processes, as well as update of existing SOPs.
- Maintains project schedules; proactively and consistently follows up on assignments to ensure successful completion.
- Using cost justification, accurately and efficiently selects the required components, automation, and controls for machine building/automation.
- Oversees the design of internally built equipment.
- Creates and maintains CAD drawings and documentation using AutoCAD for production cells within facility layout for ramp up and ongoing flow optimization.
- Assists with problem solving during manufacturing related investigations. Own SPS (Stow Production System) for corrective action and mistake-proofing non-conformances in the part families.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering preferred), or equivalent experience
- 5 Years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or automated production environment
- Experience leading lean manufacturing initiatives
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Management Experience mentoring process technicians, junior engineers, Kaizen teams, etc.
- Proven leadership and motivational skills
- Successful implementations using project management skills
- Ability to communicate difficult issues with others, negotiate positive outcomes
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
- Preferred skills in SQL databases
- Experience using various programming software- PLC, robotics, CNC, etc.
- Good troubleshooting skills with a bias toward action and results
- Excellent PC skills required, such as Microsoft Office
- Strong continuous improvement/lean manufacturing skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Sitting at workstation approximately 50 percent of work time
- Standing and walking approximately 50 percent of work time
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs on occasion
- Must be able to travel between plant and office locations
- Manufacturing environment with multiple machinery and moving parts

Such assignments may be warranted due to a variety of specific requirements, conditions and/or the capabilities of available personnel. Management will determine the nature and duration of those assignments.
