StoutCap is a real estate development and investment company based in the New York City area. We develop one- and two-family homes for sale and own and manage a portfolio of rental properties.
Our work includes buying properties, managing construction, tracking costs, selling completed homes, and operating rentals. We work closely with lenders and contractors and rely on clean, accurate financials to run the business.
We are looking for a Real Estate Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage the accounting for our development projects and rental properties. This role includes keeping the books, tracking construction costs, and helping with construction loan draws and cash management. You should be comfortable monitoring bank balances, preparing draw support, and making sure project accounts are always properly funded. This is not a basic bookkeeping role — you should understand how real estate development and rentals work.
- Maintain bookkeeping for development projects and rental properties
- Record and review journal entries
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Track and properly classify:
- Operating expenses
- Construction and development costs
- Capital improvements
- Loan and financing-related items
- Prepare and support construction loan draws
- Monitor project bank balances and cash flow
- Flag issues related to missing funds, overruns, or unusual activity
- Support internal and lender reporting as needed
- Experience with real estate or construction accounting
- Understanding of:
- Operating expenses vs capital costs
- Construction and development cost tracking
- Basic loan and draw processes
- Proficiency with QuickBooks
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work independently and stay on top of cash and balances
- Accounting or finance background preferred
- CPA is a plus, but not required
