The Program Manager – Residential Gas Meter Installation is a hands-on technical leader responsible for overseeing and supporting residential gas meter installation and replacement programs. This role partners closely with field supervisors, mechanics, utilities, and inspectors to resolve technical challenges, standardize installation practices, and keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position serves as the primary technical authority for residential gas meters, regulators, venting, and customer gas piping. The ideal candidate brings strong field experience, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through expertise.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership for residential gas meter and regulator installations
- Supervise and support a team of mechanics performing meter installation and related gas work
- Assist field supervisors and crews with non-standard installations, legacy piping, and meter relocations
- Troubleshoot failed inspections, pressure issues, leaks, and service start-ups
- Provide clear guidance on meter location, venting requirements, protection methods, and code compliance
- Serve as the go-to technical resource when work stalls or site conditions require escalation
- Partner with supervisors to improve installation consistency, quality, and productivity
- Reduce rework by identifying trends, coaching crews, and improving field practices
- Communicate effectively with utility representatives, inspectors, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues quickly
- Support training and mentoring of supervisors and lead technicians
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with company, utility, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Minnesota Master Plumber License
- Authorized to perform residential natural gas work in Minneapolis
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience with residential natural gas piping, meters, and regulators
- Strong working knowledge of gas codes, utility standards, and field installation best practices
- Proven ability to solve complex field problems and make sound technical decisions
- Experience leading crews or supervising field operations
- Clear, practical communicator who can explain technical requirements to crews and stakeholders
Preferred Experience
- Residential gas meter replacement or utility modernization programs
- Urban residential environments and older housing stock
- Operator Qualification (OQ) experience
- OSHA 30 certification
