What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI&T Systems Engineer position at Storm4?
β‘ Job Title: Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) Engineer - Electrical (System-Level Test Focus)
πΌ Industry: Space Exploration (Space-resources / spacecraft development)
π Location: Colorado - Full-time, on-site
π° Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 annually (target range for this location)
β‘ Company Overview:
Early-stage, mission-driven space engineering company focused on developing technologies to access and use space resources. Small, cross-functional teams value ownership, diversity of thought, and high technical standards. The organisation blends systems, software and hardware engineering to deliver flight-ready spacecraft for commercial asteroid resource missions.
β‘ Position Summary:
The AI&T Engineer (Electrical Systems) will lead planning and execution of system-level testing in FlatSat/HITL environments and on the flight vehicle to verify spacecraft readiness. This is a hands-on role that sits at the intersection of systems, flight software, and electrical engineering: you will author and run test procedures, command/control vehicles during powered tests, analyse telemetry, drive anomaly closure, and coordinate multi-discipline test campaigns to ensure safe, traceable verification of mission requirements.
β‘ Key Responsibilities:
β’ Own planning and execution of flight-vehicle and FlatSat system-level tests (initial power-on, functional, mission simulations, closed-loop scenarios).
β’ Ensure vehicle health and safety during all powered testing; perform electrical mates and measurements (BOBs, DMM, oscilloscope, etc.).
β’ Command and control the vehicle during powered tests; run dry-runs and support flight operations products prior to uplink.
β’ Develop, maintain and version-control test artifacts: configurations, harness mates, FSW/GSW versions, simulation setups, scripts (Python), onboard sequences, and written procedures.
β’ Maintain FlatSat/HITL readiness for CI/CD and manual system testing; balance automation with hardware safety.
β’ Capture and document test results, telemetry, images/video, and non-conformance reports; lead post-test reviews and drive resolution with subsystem teams.
β’ Lead procedure and test-readiness reviews and coordinate EGSE/harnessing and mechanical AI&T activities for campaign scheduling.
β’ Identify opportunities for automation and standardisation; capture lessons learned to improve future campaigns.
β‘ Required Qualifications:
β’ BS or MS in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
β’ Demonstrated hands-on experience planning and executing spacecraft system-level tests (power-on, functional, mission simulations).
β’ Strong understanding of V&V and system verification processes.
β’ Proficiency with repository and CI tools (GitLab or equivalent).
β’ Practical experience with electrical test equipment (DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, loads, etc.).
β’ Experience with ground command/control software and telemetry systems (e.g., COSMOS, InControl, NASA ASIST or similar).
β’ Experience building or maintaining FlatSat / HITL environments and supporting flight software test coverage.
β’ Scripting and tooling skills (Python, Bash, Linux; LabVIEW experience a plus).
β’ Ability to analyse test data, document results, and drive anomalies to closure.
β’ Strong communication skills and comfort coordinating multi-discipline test campaigns while maintaining safety and traceability.
β‘ Nice-to-Have / Bonus:
β’ Experience leading multi-day, multi-discipline spacecraft test campaigns on-console.
β’ Flight operations experience.
β’ Experience building test data analysis tools or working with spacecraft dynamics simulation in system testing.
β‘ Compensation and Benefits:
β’ Target salary range: $100,000 - $140,000 (final offer based on experience).
β’ Equity incentives.
β’ Medical, dental, and vision plans with buy-up options.
β’ Short-term and long-term disability coverage paid by employer.
β’ Basic life insurance paid by employer.
β’ 401(k) plan.
β’ Generous PTO.
