Position Summary
The Manufacturing Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls for manufacturing operations. This role serves as a strategic business partner to plant leadership, ensuring accurate product costing, inventory valuation, operational efficiency, and financial performance. The Manufacturing Controller provides critical financial insights that support decision-making, profitability improvement, and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, corporate accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Coordinate external audits and support compliance initiatives.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
- Manage standard costing systems and maintain accurate product costing.
- Analyze manufacturing variances including labor, material, overhead, and production efficiencies.
- Monitor inventory valuation, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
- Evaluate cost-saving opportunities and operational improvements.
- Support pricing strategies through detailed cost analysis.
Budgeting, Forecasting & FP&A
- Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes.
- Partner with operations leaders to establish financial targets and KPIs.
- Analyze plant performance against budget and forecast.
- Provide financial modeling and profitability analysis for strategic initiatives.
- Present financial results and recommendations to executive leadership.
Operational Partnership
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to plant management.
- Collaborate with production, supply chain, procurement, and engineering teams.
- Monitor key manufacturing metrics including:
- Production costs
- Labor efficiency
- Inventory turnover
- Scrap and yield rates
- Manufacturing variances
- Gross margin performance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage accounting and finance staff within the manufacturing facility.
- Develop team capabilities through coaching and performance management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Lead implementation of financial systems and process enhancements.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
Experience
- 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
