Position Summary
Working under the general direction of the Director of Facilities & Conservation, the Housekeeper works as part of a team responsible for the general maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the buildings and grounds, galleries, and setting up areas for meetings and events, and light maintenance work. This team also maintains the quality of sidewalks and parking areas by ensuring they are cleared of trash, debris, snow, and ice. This role represents a unique opportunity for someone who has both experience keeping indoor and outdoor spaces clean and functional as well as the physical desire and ability to execute the work.

Responsibilities
The Housekeeper responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Housekeeping
- Empty waste baskets, garbage and recycling cans
- Maintain the general tidiness of the site including picking up litter
- Clean office spaces and public restroom facilities
- Vacuum, sweep, and mop office and gallery spaces
- Clean communal kitchen areas, mirrors, glass in doors, and windows
- Perform light maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, and clearing leaves or snow on walkways
- Remove snow by shoveling and/or operating mechanical snow removal equipment
- Emergency storm response
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment in workshop and storage area
- Care for equipment used for cleaning purposes (vacuums and other sanitation supplies)
- Safely operate light vehicles such as golf carts
- Follow all OSHA safety standards associated with the landscape, horticultural, tree and construction industry
- Performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning of tools and machines
Facilities & Conservation Support
- Support with general maintenance of site, including occasionally assisting with repairs & installation of artwork
- Fill out maintenance reports and take photos for documentation purposes
- Assist with the conservation of sculptures and fabrication, installation of exhibitions, and removal of exhibitions pieces both outside and in the indoor galleries
- Support with ad-hoc requests to support Facilities & Conservation as necessary
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in housekeeping or janitorial services (no prior conservation support experience necessary)
- Proficiency in operating small power tools and ability to drive a golf cart
- Valid NYS Drivers’ License required
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others
- Ability to work both independently and in teams
Working Environment
- Works primarily outdoors
- Ability to maneuver outdoors, in all weather conditions, on 500 acres of hills, grass, and gravel pathways
- Ability to safely climb and complete work from atop a ladder
- Frequent lifting, stooping, or bending
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and perform heavy physical labor on a daily basis in all weather conditions
- This role is represented by the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Local 1000, AFSCME, AFL-CIO and is governed by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between Storm King and CSEA Local 720 (Unit A)
Hours/Schedules
This position is seasonal, full-time, non-exempt. Initial expectation is for at least one month with the possibility to extend longer depending upon coverage needs and performance at the sole discretion of Storm King.
Typical work hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 8am-4:30pm. Schedules may vary based on seasonality and organizational needs.
