Summary:
StorageDefender is a rapidly growing, venture-backed, hardware-enabled SaaS company in Denton, TX. We are seeking a hands-on, strategic Vice President of Finance to lead planning and analysis, accounting, cash management, tax compliance, and scalable finance operations across our software and hardware businesses. This leader will build the financial infrastructure for disciplined growth and will report directly to the CEO.
The ideal candidate has led finance at an early- to mid-stage technology company ($10 to $35 million ARR), preferably with both recurring software revenue and physical products.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Financial Leadership & Planning:
- Partner with the CEO and leadership team on growth, pricing, hiring, investment, and resource allocation.
- Build integrated models and scenarios covering revenue, headcount, cash runway, hardware purchasing, inventory, and capital needs.
- Define and monitor SaaS, hardware, and working-capital metrics, including MRR, ARR, retention, churn, CAC, CLTV, gross margin, landed cost, inventory turns, and obsolescence reserves.
2. Fundraising & Investor Relations:
- Support equity and debt financings by maintaining financial models and diligence materials.
- Prepare clear reporting for the Board, investors, and lenders, and manage external finance relationships.
3. Finance Operations, Controls & Compliance:
- Lead accounting, reporting, treasury, AP, AR, payroll, tax, and finance systems, using external specialists where appropriate.
- Deliver accurate, timely GAAP closes and reporting, including revenue recognition for software, hardware, implementation, and bundled offerings.
- Own inventory accounting and multi-state sales and use tax.
- Manage cash, liquidity, collections, purchasing commitments, and working capital, with attention to inventory lead times and stocking levels.
- Develop and test internal controls over cash, purchasing, vendor setup, revenue, inventory custody and valuation, tax filings, and financial reporting.
Qualifications:
While not required, ideal candidates have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Post-graduate finance/account credentials are a plus.
- 10-20 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership in a high-growth technology company.
- Hands-on experience implementing systems and building financial models and cash-flow forecasts; this role is approximately 70% execution and 30% management.
- Strong command of SaaS or recurring-revenue metrics, forecasting, revenue recognition, GAAP reporting, close, controls, budgeting, and cash management.
- Experience with inventory accounting and costing, landed cost, cycle counts, valuation, reserves, and supply-chain working capital.
- Working knowledge of multistate sales and use tax.
- Experience supporting fundraising, debt financing, board reporting, audits, investor diligence.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills; high integrity and sound judgment; and the ability to operate strategically while staying close to execution.
