What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Transformation Trainer position at Stony Brook University?

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, Under the direction of the Training Coordinator, the Clinical Transformation Trainer/Senior Instructional Support Specialist will be dedicated to manage all aspects of training clinical end users on electronic medical record systems. They will monitor and document on-going training of clinical end users.


Duties may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Adheres to mission and values of Stony Brook University Hospital.
  • Communicates in a professional manner.
  • Designs and executes educational activities, for end user training, which include skills training during the use of new computer applications and on-going education of enhancements.
  • Primary trainer on all end user training events.
  • Assumes the role of lead trainer during conversion training.
  • Promote awareness of electronic medical record system by utilizing various communication techniques including but not limited to creating handouts/flyers and holding demonstrations.
  • Evaluate and assist with testing web based training modules.
  • Proctor web based training classes in the computer training room.
  • Assist Training Coordinator with planning and logistics as needed.
  • Assist with the development of all training materials for application classes.
  • Work with the Training Coordinator to design and develop training plans including lesson plans.
  • Act as liaison between the clinical departments and Information technology to ensure training requirements are met.
  • Participate in design sessions for system development.
  • Maintains all development training databases and develops method for including identified issues into training documents.
  • Takes a team approach to resolving identified issues.
  • Works collaboratively with other team members.
  • Ensure adherence to all hospital policy and procedures.
  • Participates in the champion program by providing assistance as appropriate.
  • Attends and participates in committees and task forces pertinent to training of clinical application systems.
  • Demonstrates a desire for continued growth by participation in continuing education programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years experience training staff in a clinical environment.
  • Experience in teaching includes computer applications, developing training materials, lesson plans, training large groups of people by demonstration/lecture.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Computer proficiency includes knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, electronic mail and calendar systems.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of one year experience training staff in a clinical environment.
  • Basic understanding of hospital information systems, project management methods and Camtasia and/or Captivate software.

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19,” Candidates who are not already partially vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol Candidates who are partially vaccinated, but not yet fully vaccinated, must complete their vaccination series within three (3) calendar days of job offer or in accordance with vaccine manufacture protocol, whichever comes later.

The regulation also includes those who may be affiliated with or interact with employees of a hospital or nursing home. The regulation allows for limited exemptions with reasonable accommodations, consistent with applicable law.

Posting Overview: This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. An initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
