Head Custodian - Stony Brook Middle School
Primary Responsibilities
The Head Custodian reports directly to the Building Principal and the Director of Facilities. Their core mission is to provide a clean and safe environment for students and staff.
- Supervision: Directs and schedules the work of the building's custodial team. This includes training new staff and ensuring tasks are completed during both day and evening shifts.
- Building Maintenance: Performs minor repairs (plumbing, electrical, and carpentry) and identifies larger issues that require the attention of the district's Maintenance Department.
- Facility Operations: Manages the school’s HVAC systems and monitors energy consumption.
- Safety & Security: Responsible for the opening and closing of the building, ensuring all alarms and safety systems are functional.
- Inventory Management: Requisitions cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring the school is always stocked with necessary materials.
- Event Support: Coordinates building setup for outside groups, school plays, town meetings, and sporting events held at Stony Brook.
- Grounds Care: Oversees snow removal from walkways and general upkeep of the immediate building perimeter.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: Significant experience in custodial work, preferably within a school setting, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Tolerance for heights and working in various weather conditions.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with power tools, floor buffers, and building automation software.
