Position Description
TITLE: Thrift Shop Team Member
DEPARTMENT: Thrift Shop
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt/part-time
REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Director & On Site Thrift Supervisor
This is a Part-Time year-round position to assist with back room processing at our busy Thrift Shop, working 9am to 4:30pm Thursday through Saturday. This position provides customer service for donors, donation processing, inventory pricing, merchandise staging and general maintenance to both the Thrift processing areas and retail floor. The ideal candidate is one who enjoys a fast-paced, interesting, positive and welcoming environment. The COMO Thrift Shop is an important fundraising arm of the Stonington Community Center.
Highlights of the Thrift Store Team Member Essential Functions include:
- Assist with donation handling
- Research and price inventory
- Organize items and maximize flow of merchandise onto the sales floor
- Assist with rotation of merchandise (sales, clearance on the sales floor)
- Maintenance and cleaning of Thrift Store
- Empty trash receptacles/Take trash to dumpster
- Break-down cardboard for recycle/Take out to recycle bin
- Assist customers in donation area and on sales floor
- Use the register to process customer transactions
- Assist in floor moves
- Assist with customer pick-ups
- Participate in seasonal evening events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop and kneel for extended periods of time to lift and move donations, totes, boxes, garbage bags and pieces of furniture.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to drive a pickup truck
- Ability to multitask in a busy Thrift Store setting
- Criminal and motor vehicle backgrounds are conducted
Education:
High School diploma required; possess a valid driver’s license.
Experience:
One year experience in a related field required. Prior customer service experience required. Please note the successful candidate must reside within 30 miles of the Community Center.
