Among these are: radiology, a surgical facility, dentistry, in-house laboratory, pharmacy, prescription diets, and emergency services.

Summary of Job Duties and Essential Functions:

Veterinary technicians must have a broad knowledge of animal science, terminology, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, administer and monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in surgery, use proper medical terminology when speaking and writing, maintain certifications, licenses, or registration, and perform dental procedures. Technicians must also maintain confidentiality, complete medical record management tasks, exam-room, nursing-care, client-interaction, and inventory management tasks as assigned. Follow established procedures and operate within AAHA and OSHA standards. Other duties required, but not limited to, consist of providing patients with compassionate nursing care as well as maintaining a compassionate and professional environment for all clients and co-workers.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or similar
  • RVT or CVT designation, preferred
  • Ability to handle stress and pressure with poise and tact.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while at hospital.

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work 1-2 weekends per month and work well in a team environment
  • Have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, and be able to lift, push and pull, pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Assist in lifting patients weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
  • have physical mobility and dexterity to frequently stand, walk bend, push, twist, kneel, climb, squat, stoop, and reach overhead
  • Considerable mental/visual concentration, coordinating manual dexterity with mental/visual attention, requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
  • Must wear closed-toe shoes, gloves, and other protective items as required.
  • A consistent presence at work is required.
