Responsibilities
- Properly clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments using advanced sterilization equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Prepare dental operatory rooms by organizing sterile instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with inventory management by monitoring sterilization supplies and ordering replacements as needed.
- Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and dentists to facilitate smooth clinical operations using EMR systems such as Open Dental, Triana
- Support infection control practices by adhering to aseptic techniques, maintaining knowledge of anatomy, dental terminology, and medical terminology relevant to clinical procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other regulatory guidelines related to infection prevention and safety protocols in the dental clinic.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Dental Sterilization Technician or in a similar dental assisting role within a general dentistry or pediatric dentistry practice.
- Knowledge of sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and 3D scanners used for dental imaging.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Strong understanding of infection control procedures, aseptic technique, and HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to communicate effectively using dental terminology, medical coding, and medical documentation standards.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy relevant to dentistry, including pediatric dentistry considerations when applicable.
- Certification in infection control or sterilization techniques is preferred but not mandatory; on-the-job training will be provided for motivated candidates.
