How you’ll make an impact
You’ll interpret program specs and blueprints to define operations, sequences, final dimensions, and control paths. You’ll move programs from the server to CNC modules over network links, load control instructions into the machine control unit, and execute reliable setups. With precision measuring tools in hand, you’ll mount, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces. You’ll confirm coolant and lubrication are correct, then start and supervise operations—tuning speeds and actions with gauges and hand tools to meet product requirements.
During runs, you’ll listen for the signs that matter—tool wear, chatter, or vibration—and adjust to maintain part quality. You’ll stop machines to pull completed workpieces or to change tooling, setups, or placements as dictated by the machining sequence. Each part is verified: measure critical dimensions with precision instruments, inspect surfaces for issues like chipped edges or marring, and sort any nonconforming parts by flaw type. When cutting tools dull, you’ll replace them promptly. Throughout, you’ll record operational data and maintain a clean, capable workstation. You will set up and operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more functions on metal workpieces. Other duties may be assigned as needs evolve.
