What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Environmental Professional - Wetlands Specialist position at Stokes Environmental Associates?
Stokes Environmental Associates is seeking a seasoned professional to lead and grow our wetlands and environmental consulting department. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, client development, and strategic vision. We’re looking for someone who can guide our team, build client relationships, and help drive new opportunities across wetland delineation, permitting, wetland mitigation bank development/management, and related service areas.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of environmental scientists and consultants.
- Oversee wetlands projects from start to finish; delineations, permitting, mitigation banking, agency coordination, and reporting.
- Provide technical and regulatory guidance on wetland and other environmental projects.
- Develop and expand client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, deadlines, and budgets.
- Review and refine technical reports, proposals, and applications.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients and staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an environmental discipline.
- 8 years of professional experience in wetlands or environmental consulting.
- Certified training in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation methods.
- Strong working knowledge of wetland indicators (vegetation, hydrology, soils).
- Experience preparing joint permit applications and navigating regulatory approvals.
- Proven leadership and mentoring ability.
- Excellent communication, organization, and business development skills.
Additional Non-mandatory Qualifications:
- Experience with Phase I/II ESAs, NEPA reviews, or endangered species assessments.
- Business/management education (MBA or similar).
