Property Accountant

Full-Time (Part-Time Possible) | Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM

Stokes Environmental Associates is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive property accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting functions for a portfolio of real estate properties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning their work, collaborating across teams, and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting.
The Property Accountant will serve as the primary accounting partner to operational staff and management, supporting both cash-basis and accrual accounting. This is a hands-on role for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment and values process improvement and accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned properties, working closely with operational staff and management.
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- Perform day-to-day accounting functions including reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet tracking, and work paper preparation.
- Review approved payables, confirm cash availability, and initiate timely payments.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances from budget, and assist with cash flow projections.
- Provide accounting guidance to operational staff, with an understanding of the operational perspective.
- Maintain compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures, and assist with audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Assist with financial performance analysis and ad hoc reporting as needed.
- Support transitions to new accounting software and enhanced systems.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling financial and tenant information.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams, vendors, and tenants.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience.
- Property management or real estate accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Quickbooks.
- Familiarity with Sage is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Organized, timely, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Comfortable working with limited supervision while collaborating effectively with others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor.
- Adaptable, positive attitude, and willingness to grow with evolving systems and processes.

Pay: $60,077.25 - $72,351.09 per year
