General Description:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide administrative support to the agency by processing a variety of documentation associated with the State of NC as it relates to Departments of Social Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to collecting and compiling data for the preparation and submission of reports; bookkeeping; recordkeeping; assistance with time reporting when needed; and assistance with purchasing when needed. Work in this class provides technical assistance as needed to staff. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of personal computers and related information technology devices. Thorough knowledge of the software packages utilized within the agency. Ability to communicate effectively with users who may not be able to clearly describe problem situations. Ability to independently plan and organize work due to report deadlines; ability to summarize, compile, and tabulate narrative and numerical materials; ability to use judgment in organizing and establishing formats. Ability to resolve problem situations through available resources. Ability to work under time constraints and other demands. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county and state staff and various vendor representatives. Ability to perform duties in a stressful work environment.
Experience and Training:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of progressively responsible secretarial or clerical/administrative/office management experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program and two years of progressively responsible secretarial or clerical/administrative, office management experience; or completion of a four year program in a college or university preferably with major emphasis on coursework in business administration, public administration, or other related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All employees are required to take a physical exam including urinalysis.
Employees will be called upon in case of disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Stokes County. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position announcement.
Employees are also responsible for shift work when placement of children/adults cannot be found.
Stokes County will complete background investigations on applicants that shall include, at a minimum, an identity verification, a sex offender registry check, and a criminal record check. In addition, a credit check, educational verification check, and/or driving record history may be required depending upon the position applied for.
