Brief Job Overview/Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Academic Achievement Programs, the Student Success Coach (SSC) is a key member of the Academic Achievement Programs (AAP) team. The SSC position supports student retention and persistence efforts in Stockton University's Academic Achievement Programs. The SSC primary responsibility is advising/coaching/mentoring a caseload of students from Academic Achievement Programs. Additionally, SSC participates and provides support for the AAP Summer Bridge Program.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive group and one-on-one advising, holistic counseling, referrals, and support services to a caseload of AAP students to ensure their academic success and compliance with program and university requirements. Provide support services to all AAP students including, but not limited to, first-year, upper-class, first semester transfers, undeclared, and other groups as needed
  • May be requested to teach, facilitate, or support an AAP-specific course
  • Interviews, recommends, and monitors part-time and student staff members during the academic year, as well as assists with the supervision and training of AAP summer bridge part time staff. Identifies growth areas and provides ongoing feedback to staff members
  • Assists with planning, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating the AAP Summer Bridge and other program initiatives throughout the academic year to enhance effectiveness and student outcomes
  • Documents, tracks, reviews, and provides data and metrics related to student contacts, workshop participation, and annual reporting
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders, including campus partners, faculty, committees, and parents/families to support AAP students and advance program goals. Collaborates with institutional retention initiatives and high impact practices that support the academic achievement, career readiness, and post-graduate success of AAP students
  • Participates in weekend events that support enrollment, recruitment, and student success efforts
  • Collaborates with financial aid, and admissions to provide information to students and parents/families about program benefits, eligibility guidelines, and FAFSA workshops
  • Ensure compliance with university and program policies, in areas such as holistic advising practices, financial aid requirements, and service-learning credits. Assists in the caseload management, roster review, and agreement review to ensure AAP compliance
  • Seek membership in professional associations, maintain awareness of trends and issues related to AAP related populations, and participate in relevant training and development opportunities
  • Utilize available electronic student record/information systems such as Banner, Degree Works, EAB Navigate, Osprey Hub, or other student success management systems as well as assessment/data management tools (i.e. Anthology) in the delivery of services to ensure the AAP program meets the needs of AAP participants
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience working with student success strategies, including developmental and intrusive advising practices
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, technological, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-directed learner and working in teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited four year institution
  • Two years of professional experience in an institution of higher education, education, or other field that is directly related to the functions of this position
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.) A Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with a focus on student development or counseling
  • Three or more years of experience advising, mentoring, coaching, teaching at risk-college students
