Bakersfield is a city in Kern County, California, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. With a population of over 400,000, it is the 9th most populous city in California. Bakersfield’s economy is built largely on agriculture and oil production. The city has 60 parks and is located less than two hours from playing in the beautiful Pacific Ocean and skiing in the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. The city is home to Cal-
State University – Bakersfield, as well as several other smaller colleges. Bakersfield is home to a diverse social scene ranging from the famous Buck Owens Crystal Palace, several museums, five state-of-the-art movie theaters, a community theater, and Mechanics Bank Arena, Arena, and Conference Center. Housing in Bakersfield is surprisingly affordable as the city is one of the last places in California that is not struggling with the difficulties caused by the skyrocketing home prices throughout the rest of the state.
