Our client is a well-established manufacturer of large, custom-engineered material handling equipment used in marine and industrial environments. They are seeking a Lead Mechanical Assembler for 2nd shift to oversee production operations while remaining hands-on in the assembly process.
This role combines mechanical expertise with team leadership. The Lead will supervise 5–10 direct reports, ensure production and quality standards are met, and take on HR-related responsibilities once fully trained and acclimated to the role.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Oversight
Supervise, coach, and support 5–10 Mechanical Assemblers on 2nd shift
Assign daily tasks and monitor workflow to meet production deadlines
Train team members on proper assembly procedures and safety standards
Assist with performance management, attendance tracking, documentation, and other HR-related functions once up to speed
Promote a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment
Serve as the primary point of contact for shift-related production concerns
Mechanical Assembly (Hands-On Role)
Assemble large, custom material handling equipment and components
Install engines, compartments, pumps, tires, conduit, and hydraulic systems
Assemble and install parts, wires, hoses, and hydraulic components
Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings
Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move steel beams and large components
Troubleshoot and support hydraulic and mechanical systems
Lift and stack completed subassemblies and parts (up to 50 lbs unassisted)
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Previous mechanical assembly experience required
Prior lead or management experience in a manufacturing environment required
Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
Computer savvy (comfortable learning internal systems; no specific software required)
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Schedule & Compensation
2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 2:30PM–1:00AM
4-day work week (3-day weekends!)
$25–28/hr, based on experience
