Position Overview

The Network Engineer helps manage, design, and grow Stimulus Broadband’s ISP network across multiple locations and networks. The work supports the live network: network design and advanced routing used by ISPs, Tier III support on customer tickets, service-level commitments, audits and network projects, IP address management and accounting, current documentation, monitoring and network mapping, network integrity and security, and root-cause work when service is down. This role supports network technicians, programs core networking equipment and radio equipment. The role is hybrid: primarily remote, with in-office time and occasional travel. You must currently reside in California, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, or Oregon. Reports to the Manager of Network Operations. Until that manager is in seat, the role takes direction from a Senior Network Engineer.

What You'll Be Doing

• Support the management, design, and growth of the network across Stimulus service locations and networks.
• Meet service-level commitments. Treat outages with urgency, and root-cause ISP outages until the cause is known.
• Carry audits and network projects and leave a record of what changed.
• Run IP address management and accounting so the records match the live network.
• Keep network documentation current, including monitoring and network mapping.
• Hold network integrity and security in the day-to-day work.
• Support field and network technicians with configuration, escalation, and hands-on help.
• Program core networking equipment and radio equipment and stay current on the protocols the network uses.
• Work hybrid — primarily remote, with in-office time and occasional travel.
  
  

Success Profile

• Trustworthy with the live network, the IP records, and an after-hours call.
• Practical ISP judgment on network design, advanced routing, and a network that spans multiple locations.
• Urgency when service is down, and the discipline to stay until the cause is known.
• Clear in English and in technical language with customers, technicians, and peers.
• Sees a need and fills it: a stale map, an IP record that does not match the plant.
• Comfortable primarily remote, in the office when the work calls for it.
  
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• ISP or similar networking experience.
• Working knowledge of network design and advanced routing as used by ISPs, across multiple locations and networks.
• Able to program core networking equipment and radio equipment.
• Working command of IP address management and accounting, network documentation, monitoring, and network mapping.
• Judgment on network integrity and security.
• Strong spoken and written English, and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
• Available for after-hours work and emergency outages.
• Must currently reside in California, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, or Oregon.
• Preferred, not required: CompTIA Network , Juniper, MikroTik, or Cisco, or an equivalent certification.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to access network facilities at service locations.
• Ability to travel among service locations.
