Description
Stimson Lumber Company is seeking to fill up one temporary forestry positions in our Western Oregon Resources department. To accommodate summer schedules, employment dates and duration is flexible and will generally be for the summer months of June through September 2026. This is a field-oriented position that requires physical work in outdoor conditions. Tasks will primarily include stand surveys, culvert/road inventory, stream surveys, harvest unit layout along with other miscellaneous tasks. This position will be based out of either our Gaston or Tillamook, Oregon office. Daily job sites will vary throughout Northwest Oregon. The applicant can expect to work 40 hours/wk (8-10 hrs/day). A company vehicle is provided for use during work hours.
Compensation: $21.00 per hour-40 hours per week ($23.00 for returning interns).
Successful applicants must:
- Have minimum standing at the end of the 2026 school year as a registered student in a Forestry related program.
- Be able to work independently or in small groups.
- Possess a valid drivers’ license and have an acceptable driving record.
- Spend 6 hours/day navigating steep terrain in all-weather conditions
- Pass a background and drug screen
Potentially helpful skills:
- Ability to use Mapping Software and other Microsoft Office based computer programs.
- Familiarity with the Oregon Forest Practices Act.
- Familiarity with the PFA stream survey protocol.
- Photo interpretation, field location and basic land navigation skills.
- Regeneration survival survey and forest inventory experience.
- Field experience in pesticide application and pre-commercial thinning.
- Have the ability to use or learn to use a manual transmission vehicle.
