The Opportunity
As a Tube Laser Operator at Stillwell, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC tube laser equipment to accurately cut metal tubing according to engineering specifications. You will interpret blueprints, verify part quality, perform machine adjustments, and help maintain efficient production flow while ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC tube laser equipment using computer controls and programmed jobs
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and job specifications
- Load and unload tubing safely and efficiently to maximize machine productivity
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments to optimize cut quality and production efficiency
- Inspect finished parts to verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall quality
- Perform machine setup verification and trial runs as needed
- Troubleshoot basic machine or production issues and communicate more complex concerns to supervisors or engineering
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain equipment in good working condition
- Maintain inventory of machine consumables and communicate replenishment needs
- Maintain accurate production and quality records in accordance with company procedures
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to support production goals
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience operating tube laser, laser cutting, or CNC fabrication equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and the use of standard measuring tools
- Ability to inspect parts and verify quality against specifications
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends as production demands require
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in metal fabrication or structural steel manufacturing
- Experience operating CNC laser equipment (tube laser experience preferred)
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance and basic machine troubleshooting
- Forklift and/or overhead crane experience
- Experience working in a Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment
- Experience with ERP or production scheduling systems
