What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1099 Therapist position at Stillpoint Counseling and Forensic Services?
A Place to Practice Differently
Stillpoint is growing, and I'm eager to welcome a therapist who wants to practice differently.
This is not a place for blank-slate providers. I'm looking for a therapist who has a point of view and is genuinely curious about people's lived experiences. This is someone who thinks deeply, asks difficult questions, is comfortable with complexity, and is more interested in the story tucked inside the presenting problem.
With Stillpoint, you'll have support without micromanagement. I care about quality and ethical practice, clear documentation, sustainable caseloads, and how we can best serve the communities that invite us in. You won't be expected to take a new referral just because you have an opening on your schedule, and your success won't be measured based on how many appointments you can fit into a week.
Where We Practice
Stillpoint currently delivers care via telehealth, at-home and in-school appointments, with occasional sessions in the regional offices of a partner agency. You'll have flexibility to choose the setting that fits your practice and clients.
That said, Stillpoint operates from a special commitment to expanding access to quality, specialized services in parts of the state that are often overlooked or left out of conventional care models. I've built Stillpoint to reach the hollers and more isolated corners of Kentucky, which sometimes means getting in your car and bringing care to a family right on their front porch.
I'm particularly interested in those who are local to Clark County, Powell County, and communities further into Eastern Kentucky who already know these communities, understand the geography and culture, and don't see rural practice as something they have to drive into from somewhere else.
You don't have to do everything in the field. But if you're willing to go where the need is, that matters here.
For You to Do
You’ll maintain your own clinical practice within Stillpoint, working with clients who are a good fit for your training, interests, and scope of practice. You’ll build therapeutic relationships and provide the kind of thoughtful clinical care you came here to provide.
You’ll have full autonomy in how you structure your schedule, the populations you work with, and the clinical approaches you use. You’ll be responsible for managing your caseload, communicating with clients and other providers as needed, and making thoughtful decisions about when a client is or isn’t a good fit for your practice.
Of course, you'll also do the less interesting parts of being a therapist, too:
- Keep your documentation current (biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, standardized screening measures, progress notes, referrals, discharge summaries).
- Follow ethical, legal, and payer requirements
- Communicate when something needs attention or you need support
- Show up for consultation or supervision when it’s useful
The Work We Do
Stillpoint has a particular interest in the places where a person or family's experience meets the systems around them: complex family systems, generational wounds, attachment and relational trauma, identity and meaning, jolting life transitions, neurodivergence, and the stories people have inherited about themselves and the world.
A lot of the work I do is narrative and systems-oriented. I help people and families unravel and examine the patterns that have traveled through families and time, making room for the ways culture, community, religion, geography, trauma, and systems can shape how they came to understand their experiences. I work with people who are trying to figure out not only what's wrong, but what actually happened, what meaning they assigned to it, and what they want to do differently.
Targeted Case Management is another important part of Stillpoint's ecosystem. As a therapist, you may work collaboratively with our case managers when a client's needs extend beyond what can reasonably be addressed in the therapy room. Collaboration might mean coordinating around shared clients, communicating about emerging needs, or working together to understand what is getting in the way of change.
Forensic Services
Stillpoint also specialized in court-involved evaluation and therapeutic services. This includes clinical assessments, comprehensive evaluations, reunification work, and co-parenting therapy for referrals coming in from Child Protection and Permanency offices, attorneys, family and criminal courts, and other formal systems of care.
If you have an interest in learning this side of the work, I'd love to teach. You don’t need to arrive knowing how to navigate court-involved cases; you only need to bring curiosity about people and a willingness to develop your own clinical practice.
