What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Inspector - Steel position at STI Metal Fab?
STI Metal Fab designs, fabricates, and erects structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We assist with commercial and industrial projects, and are looking to add a skilled Quality Control Inspector to our growing team.
Essential Responsibilities
- Inspect fabricated steel components for compliance with approved shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Verify dimensions, hole locations, member lengths, angles, weld sizes, and assembly details using appropriate measuring equipment.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections prior to shipment.
- Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming products to supervisors and production personnel.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed before products move to the next stage of production or shipping.
- Review material identification and verify that the correct materials have been used.
- Inspect welds for size, location, appearance, and compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentation.
- Monitor fabrication processes to promote continuous improvement and reduce rework.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other shop duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of 5 years of quality control, fabrication, manufacturing, or structural steel experience.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and measurement techniques.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with shop personnel and management.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift.
