Responsibilities / Duties
- Scientific Leadership & R&D Strategy
- Develop and execute R&D strategies to improve sexed-semen fertility outcomes in alignment with company goals.
- Design and oversee experiments to evaluate and optimize sperm health, sorting procedures, and post-thaw performance.
- Stay current with advances in reproductive biology, flow cytometry, and semen processing technologies.
- Laboratory Management
- Lead daily operations of the andrology and sperm-sorting R&D laboratory, ensuring efficiency, safety, and data integrity.
- Supervise laboratory scientists and technicians, including training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Ensure laboratory SOPs are current, compliant, and consistently followed.
- Assay & Technology Oversight
- Supervise the execution of sperm quality and functional assays, including:
- Flow cytometry (e.g., viability, acrosome status, DNA integrity)
- CASA (Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis)
- Capacitation studies
- Microscopy-based motility and morphology evaluation
- Drive validation of new or improved laboratory methods and instrumentation.
- Field Fertility Trial Management
- Design and manage field fertility studies, including coordination with producers, veterinarians, and technical teams.
- Oversee data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results to inform product and process decisions.
- Quality Systems
- Oversee QC and QA programs related to semen collection, processing, sperm sorting, and cryopreservation.
- Assist in dentification and resolution of quality issues; lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Experience with sex-sorting or flow cytometric cell sorting systems.
- Familiarity with large-animal fertility trials and AI program implementation.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ph.D. in Reproductive Biology, Animal Science, Biotechnology, or related field.
- 5 years of progressive experience in reproductive technologies, preferably in livestock/artificial insemination.
- Proven experience managing a scientific laboratory and leading teams.
- Strong expertise in semen analysis methods, including flow cytometry and CASA.
- Demonstrated success in experimental design, data interpretation, and applied research.
- Skilled in statistical analysis (e.g., R, SAS, JMP, etc.) and technical report writing.
