Job Description

The role of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) affords you the ability to pursue a unique kind of professional achievement. Under the general direction of the Market President, the CNO is responsible for patient safety and ensuring that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented, and maintained. In this role, the CNO works in conjunction with leadership, directors, and administration of direct patient care activities, nursing practice, nursing education and development across the assigned facility. The CNO will ensure the promotion and awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization, provide reports to the hospital’s Senior Leadership Team on the performance of in key areas along with any needs for improvement and will provide coordination for hospital efforts to monitor and maintain a standard of care, which meets or exceeds the regulatory requirements and/or standards of the State, Federal Government and Healthcare Accreditation Organizations. The CNO, in partnership with the CFO, has overall responsibility for nursing financial operations and budget.

  • Directs all nursing service activities, implements strategies to improve nursing service functions and assumes responsibility for the quality nursing care provided.

  • Responsible for driving initiatives regarding patient safety, quality, and process improvement.

  • Implements, supervises, and coordinates nursing services by ensuring evaluation, treatment, and re-evaluation are timely; assuring discharge planning; reviewing and recommending revision to policies and procedures as necessary.

  • Implements policies and procedures for nursing service in compliance with policies, guidelines, and accreditation standards. Monitors trends, outcomes and assures appropriate reporting and compliance with regulations.

  • Assures adherence to system-wide, as well as service area specific, safety and infection control procedures by disseminating information regarding safety, internal and external disaster, infection control, and administrative policies; conducting leadership meetings; providing leadership counseling and recognition as appropriate.

  • Develop a patient-focused, team-oriented culture, working in conjunction with all other medical, clinical, and ancillary areas to ensure optimal service and outcomes.

  • Maintains system to determine and provide adequate staffing for provision of appropriate nursing care.

  • Serves as a liaison between staff and administration. Attends and participates in interdepartmental meetings.

  • Provides input to administration about projects or programs that would enhance the direction of the hospital.

  • Promotes and monitors productivity.

  • Monitors the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of charge capture.

  • Ensures that all physical properties in nursing areas are kept in a good state of repair and operating condition by maintaining a safe and clean department; justifying replacement of equipment and/or new equipment purchase; assuring equipment inventory is up-to-date; providing equipment and safety in-service as needed.

  • Promote and maintain an inclusive, diverse work environment and culture

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of FL .

  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) American Red Cross or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification is required upon hire.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a medically related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in an acute care hospital.

  • Three-to-five-years of leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission, DNV, governmental and other regulatory standards, the requirements and guidelines related to quality improvement and patient safety.
