The Tax Advisor provides tax preparation, review, and analysis for Stevens Foster’s high-net-worth and executive clients. This role prepares individual, fiduciary, trust, estate, gift, and entity returns; develops tax projections; conducts research; and ensures compliance with all relevant tax laws and reporting requirements. The Tax Advisor supports strategic tax planning by identifying opportunities and integrating tax considerations into broader wealth strategies.
Working closely with Financial Planners, Advisors, and Investments teams, the Tax Advisor contributes to Stevens Foster’s coordinated Planning–Tax–Investments model. The role emphasizes precision, accuracy, proactive communication, and strong documentation — all essential to supporting the firm’s high-touch, relationship-centered client experience. The Tax Advisor also serves as a primary point of contact for complex tax matters, representing clients before the IRS and state tax authorities and owning the resolution of audits and advanced compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review
- Prepare and review individual, trust, gift, and entity tax returns accurately and on time.
- Oversee preparation processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Develop quarterly and annual tax projections and estimated payments.
- Review cost basis calculations and required minimum distribution (RMD) calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable tax regulations.
Tax Strategy & Collaboration
- Prepare and review tax projections and estimated payments
- Present tax strategies, planning recommendations, and complex tax concepts directly to clients, and support advisors in client meetings as needed.
- Assist advisors with tax-related questions and planning input.
Research & Compliance
- Research legislative and regulatory tax changes and communicate their impact to internal teams.
- Maintain accurate tax documentation, procedures, and supporting workpapers.
- Ensure compliance with all current tax laws and regulations.
- Resolve client IRS and state audits.
Represent on behalf of clients to IRS and state tax agencies.
- Review cost basis & required minimum distribution calculations.
- Provide guidance to internal client managers for tax topics & changes.
Process & Workflow Support
- Recommend improvements to tax preparation workflows, documentation standards, and client deliverables.
- Assist with technology use and organization of tax files, workpapers, and e-filing processes.
- Provide guidance to Tax Associates on return preparation, documentation, and best practices.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience preparing tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates, or entities.
- CPA designation preferred or active progress toward completion.
Technical Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of individual, fiduciary, and estate taxation.
- Proficiency with tax and research software (e.g., BNA, Lacerte, RIA Checkpoint, TaxBook, Sorban).
- Familiarity with AdvisorEngine/Junxure for documentation and workflow management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation
- Base salary: $65,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience.
- Bonus: Performance-based opportunity available.

Schedule
- Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday.
- Additional hours required during peak tax-season periods.
