Controller

StevenDouglas has been retained on a fantastic Controller career opportunity in Austin, Texas.

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be "own" the Accounting function for this high growth, PE backed 150M company.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Owns the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across a multi-entity, multi-location structure.
• Prepares and reviews consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Designs, implements, and maintains internal controls appropriate for a private equity-backed, acquisition-driven organization.
• Leads accounting integration for newly acquired locations and business lines, standardizing chart of accounts, policies, and reporting cadence.
• Manages relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and the company's PE sponsor's finance/portfolio operations team.
• Partners with the CFO and FP&A on board reporting, lender reporting, and investor financial packages.
• Oversees technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, purchase accounting for acquisitions, and goodwill/intangibles.
• Builds and mentors a growing accounting team, establishing scalable processes as the location count and transaction volume increase.
• Manages cash flow reporting, banking relationships, and treasury functions in coordination with the CFO.
• Ensures compliance with debt covenants and supports credit facility reporting requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated ability to research and apply accounting standards independently.
• Prior experience in a private equity-backed or PE portfolio company environment strongly preferred — comfort with sponsor reporting, lender requirements, and board-level financial materials.
• Proven ability to build and lead an accounting team through periods of rapid growth and organizational change.
• Strong systems aptitude; ERP implementation or optimization experience a plus.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership and/or a board.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA required.
• Public accounting background strongly preferred (Big 4 or large regional firm).
• 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including prior people management experience required.
• Multi-unit, franchise, healthcare/medical services, or consumer services industry experience is a plus.
