If you’re a seasoned PICU RN with a heart for pediatrics and a steady hand in high-acuity care, this 13-week night shift contract is calling your name. Step into a tight-knit unit where your expertise in ventilators, titratable drips, and pediatric emergencies will make a real difference. With a low average census and a collaborative team, you’ll have the space to focus on what matters most—your patients.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a PICU RN, you’ll provide critical care to pediatric patients facing life-threatening conditions. You’ll manage ventilators, monitor telemetry, administer complex drips, and respond to emergencies with precision and compassion. Expect to float to general pediatrics, burn unit (non-burn care), and NICU (voluntary) as needed.
Common Diagnoses:
- Respiratory failure
- Seizures, diabetic ketoacidosis
- Overdose, poisoning, suicide attempts
- Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances
Drips & Equipment:
- Insulin, sedatives, heparin
- Rare: vasopressin, norepinephrine, epinephrine
- Medfusion pumps, Spacelab tele monitors
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience (no first-time travelers)
- Active RN license (CA or compact)
- BLS & PALS certifications
- BSN not required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Pediatric critical care training preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical judgment in pediatric emergencies
- Ventilator management and titration of critical drips
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Charting proficiency with Cerner
