Job Summary:
Seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, CA. This acute care position focuses on post-operative cardiac surgery patients in a mixed medical-surgical ICU setting.
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU
Location: Santa Cruz, CA 95065
Job Type: Contract – 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Every Other Weekend First to Float)
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality nursing care for post-op cardiac surgery patients and general med-surg ICU patients.
- Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and monitor life-supporting devices.
- Collaborate with a cardiothoracic surgeon, CTS PA, and interdisciplinary team.
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR.
- Participate in orientation and complete a proctored CVICU exam.
Unit Details:
- Unit Type: CVICU within a mixed medical-surgical unit
- Beds: 16
- Average Patients per Day: 1 cardiac surgery patient, 12 med-surg ICU patients
- Common Diagnoses: Mitral/aortic/tricuspid valve replacements, CABG, AAA repair
- Charting System: Cerner
Requirements:
- Education: RN license required (BSN not required)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years, recent proficiency in immediate post-op cardiac surgery recovery
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, COVID Vaccine Required
- Preferred Skills: IABP, CRRT, ECMO (not required)
- Able to work 12-hour night shifts with weekend, holiday, and call requirements
- Willingness to float as needed
Orientation:
- 3 shifts, 12 hours total
