Duties
- Set up and operate optical equipment such as lens edgers, CNC lathes, and other machining tools to produce ophthalmic lenses according to specifications
- Interpret ophthalmic prescriptions and lens parameters, including abbreviations and measurements, to ensure accurate fabrication
- Manage laboratory processes by following ISO 13485 standards for quality management systems in medical device manufacturing
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards
- Perform quality assurance checks by inspecting lens parameters, verifying measurements, and identifying defects or deviations from specifications
- Maintain detailed records of production activities, laboratory procedures, and equipment maintenance logs
- Support laboratory management by organizing inventory of materials, tools, and supplies needed for high-volume production tasks
Experience
- Proven experience working in an optical laboratory or manufacturing environment with high-volume production responsibilities
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience operating machining tools such as CNC lathes and optical lens edgers
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques specific to ophthalmology, including lens parameter identification and anatomy knowledge related to eye physiology
- Ability to interpret ophthalmic prescriptions accurately using standard abbreviations and terminology
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 standards applicable to medical device manufacturing environments
- Experience with optical laboratory procedures, quality assurance protocols, and maintaining laboratory documentation
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and data analysis related to lens fabrication processes
