What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Controls Technician position at STERLING PRODUCTS INC?
ACS Group is a privately held company that designs and manufactures comprehensive lines of auxiliary products for the plastics processing industry. ACS Group maintains an expansive product line, which includes size reduction equipment (granulators and shredders), material conveying equipment, metering and blending devices, heat exchangers (mold temperature control units and chillers), drying systems, and presses. These products are marketed under such recognizable brand names as AEC, Sterling, Cumberland, Wabash and Carver.
Manufacturing facilities are located in New Berlin, Wisconsin and Wabash, Indiana with a third facility located Suzhou, China to handle the needs of the Asian market.
The Field Service Technician is responsible for evaluating and repairing Wabash / Carver equipment at customer facilities in a technically knowledgeable and professional manner.
Primarily: Perform product repairs at customer locations
Secondarily: When not traveling, support for both bench repair and interdepartmentally as needed
Job Includes:
- Calibration of Wabash and Carver presses which includes evaluation and adjustment of pressure and temperature readouts
- Startup of Wabash and Carver presses which includes evaluation of press and training for operators and maintenance
- Repair Wabash / Carver equipment in regard to:
- Hydraulic Repair: This will be in the form of troubleshooting problems and making adjustments or repairs to hydraulic pumps and valves.
- Control Systems: This will be from basic electrical controls (buttons and relays), to limited PLC support (Primarily Allen Bradley products), and adjustment or repair of auxiliary controls integrated into our equipment (Rexroth, Watlow, Eurotherm, etc.)
- Provide proper documentation / records resulting from the service call
- Provide ongoing customer support in the form of follow up emails or phone calls
- Other duties as required
Physical Requirement:
- Ability to work with heavy machinery, and lift reasonable amounts of weight
- Ability to travel; including extended amounts of driving.
- Lifting, pulling and pushing are required
- Requires the use of PPE and safety equipment to include but not limited to; steel toed shoes and eye safety glasses when in manufacturing areas
Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or equivalent – additional technical schooling preferred and/or 2 year of experience with field service and repair of industrial equipment
- Strong mechanical background and familiarity with mechanical equipment
- Experience and knowledge of reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Experience with basic electrical and/or hydraulic troubleshooting
- Experience with working directly with customers and the ability to present a very positive company image when working at customer facilities
- Ability to develop and maintain positive customer relationships
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
